#9: 2878 East Main Street

This is one of the few buildings that has always been what it originally was intended when it was built – in this case – a tavern. Al Smith first operated the tavern; then by Otto Justin, who named it the Board of Trade. Later, LaVern Spiegelhoff and Wenzel Jude owned it, and eventually it was taken over by Jack Gracey. When Jean and Rural George assumed ownership, it became known as Denny’s Bar, operated by their son, Denny George.  The name later reverted back to the historic “Al Smith’s Saloon.”
